Any Russian band, which gave its musical preference to performing anything else, besides pesky casual rock, deserves respect by itself. This is the way
which was taken by the musicians from 'DoppelgangeR', who play a kind of a heavy gothic-rock. Unfortunately, the present-day listeners don't
admit or even stay in ignorance of that gothic-rock, which was popular in the eighties, when BAUHAUS, SIOUXSIE & THE BANSHEES,
THE SISTERS OF MERCY and many others gave birth to their masterpieces. Lots of modern bands have to do their best to achieve what is called
“stylish sound”. Some of them add a great deal of electronic samples to their music, and some others make their sound heavier, as it was properly
speaking done by 'DoppelgangeR'. In this way it would be appropriate to compare the band not with KILLING MIRANDA, for instance, but with
such group as THE 69 EYES. The energetic gothic-rock action songs in the album '...desire lost forever?' alternate lyrical ballads, which represent
an integral whole of the general conception. I would like to distinguish the composition called 'Immortal lady' – a really beautiful ballad, in
which the dramatic expressiveness of the vocal played its leading part. As for me, the best action song is 'Kiss to my last breath'. The soloist
managed to express the whole range of emotions with his voice: sufferings, fit, emotional state of disorder, hope and disillusion. And all this
was performed with dignity and sense of measure, avoiding exaltation and excessiveness. Of course, the album is not ideal: the last three
songs are not impressive at all, and there is no desire to listen to them once again. The similarity with the same style foreign bands is obvious.
But never the less, the album came to be worth, and the music, for sure, will find it's reflection in people's hearts. One would like to see further
quality releases from this band.
